Social media research project shows promise

I'm thrilled to report that the social networking research project which was initially discussed on twitter is starting to take shape. It's a pleasure to be working alongside colleagues Amanda Taylor and David McKendrick to get this project off the ground (albeit virtual ground!). We hope that our first year students will participate and help to shape the development of Social Media in Social Work Education (SMSWE). So how far have we got? We have confirmed a  date for the live  twitter debate and asked our first year students to set up a twitter account, and join a private twitter group where the discussion between the two Schools of Social Work will be hosted. Our ethics application is currently under review and once approved we will be inviting students to consent to participate in this groundbreaking project. Myself David and Amanda have been reading and collecting reports on using social media in social work education and we are also thinking about how best to present the findings of our study to other social work academics. Phew and then there's the day job! As you can guess we keep up with each other on twitter, Adobe Connect and Skype, one day soon we hope to meet up in person!
